DIY Distressed Denim Jacket

DIY Distressed Denim Jacket

I fell in love with this Denim Jacket while visiting a local boutique here in Detroit. I immediately tried the jacket on and saw that the price tag read $100!!! I immediately thought to myself that I could probably make this jacket at home, so I left and went to my local thrift store. I found this Forever 21 jacket in the women's department for $5.99 (Score!) .

I went on pinterest and google (my best friend) and found some inspirations from pictures of other jackets that I liked. Once I had a good idea about how I wanted my jacket to look, I went in my kitchen to find some basic items that I needed. To make a distressed denim jacket I used a cheese grater, rigid edge knife, and a box cutter. I Sometimes I use an Facto Knife but for some reason I couldn't find it lol. Each tool can be used in a different way depending on the type of style you want your jacket to have. You can also use tweezers, scissors, or sand paper to make a distressed look on any denim but these were the tools that I used.

I laid the jacket on a white board and got to work. Once I got the jacket distressed how I liked, I put it in the washing machine and dried it. Overall I was very happy with my jacket and I can not wait to wear it. I know that it is going to be a staple in my wardrobe this Spring. Below is a sneak peek of the jacket lol. Stay tuned for a post about my full look!
